K and I watched a great movie this weekend (another Netflix find!) titled Run Lola Run. It was wonderfully unique, fast paced, and interesting. Highly recommended! In addition, we also watched Memento...well, K watched sections of the movie in between rounds of snoozing...and we also watched part of the Super Bowl.
Confession: I used to love sports, any sport. I would watch darn near any sporting event other than figure skating. Now? I really couldn't care less about sports. With each passing year I watch less, care less, and become more irritated with the entire sports entertainment industry. I want to vomit every time I see some athlete pound his chest after making a play he was supposed to make....two minutes into the game. Pah-leeeeze. Do any of us do that at work? "Arrggghhhh...." (pounding chest sound), "I just typed the perfect email!" How many of your co-workers walk around the office patting themselves on the back because they did exactly what they are paid to do? Right, same at my workplace, none! Yes, professional athlete, you are taller or faster or stronger than me, but scoring fifty points in a basketball game or getting five sacks in a football game doesn't make you any more special, in my eyes, than the barista at Starbucks fixing me a latte. In fact, they are probably much more humble and don't drive a Hummer.....and I am really generalizing here!.....when the entire point was to say that I don't really like/watch sports anymore.
Anyone up for a run?
There were no culinary experiences worth noting this weekend other than our breakfast on Saturday morning with Top Dog. We met him at Suzanne's in Ne-Po (Northeast Portland) and consumed a rather yummy meal. K had a smoked salmon omelet and I had poached eggs....Top Dog had some dish I can't pronounce - some sort of egg dish. We all left happy and satisfied.
After the breakfast we, gulp, went to Wal-Mart! To all the poor souls working at Wally World for $6 dollars per hour...I know that you have no union representation....I know that Wally World treats you like garbage in spite of records profits....I know that they work your butt off....I know that they squash out the little guy and are helping contribute to the end of "ma & pa" stores......I know that Sam Walton's kids give very little money (based on percentage of total income) to charity in spite of the fact that they are each multi-billionaires.....I know you have to take the bus to work while the head honchos, working half as hard as you, stroll in whenever they please in their brand new Mercedes......I know, I know, I know....but I got a great deal on a pair of Dickies pants! And K got a great pair of shoes for 7 buck!......but we do feel kind of bad about it.
Still waiting for the rings to arrive. K's dress came in on Friday and she loves it! I am not allowed viewing since it is to be a surprise on the day of the wedding. I'm sure she will look stunning...shoot, she looks stunning at 4:00 am in her sweats and a tee-shirt.
Played a bunch this weekend and gave some lessons. But, damn!, I don't have anther gig on the calendar until March 6th! The gig's are not going very well right now. Hhhhmmmm. I guess that means I work on my record for the next few weeks and get the last few songs written.
K rocks. - A
