Rumble in the Belly

Poor K, she hasn't been feeling well these past few days. In her case, "morning sickness" is not at all an accurate phrase. Leave out the first word and, bingo! that's how she is feeling most of the time. My inability to help her is frustrating. Hopefully, she will not have to endure 9 months of stomach gurgles.

Compass was given a clean bill of health today by the vet. I felt a lump near her ribs while petting her a few nights ago. On cue, K was on the horn with the vet first thing the next day. (Gotta love K's proactive nature!) Turns out Compass is very healthy - she's a lean, not-even-mean, 79 pounds of lab-retriever lovin'. Thanks heavens she is ok!

Well, off to bed.

Nice Dinner

We had a fun meal tonight with Katey, Alan, Doris and Ed. Here was the menu:
  • Appetizer
    • Fresh sourdough bread
    • Crab cocktail
  • Main Course (served together)
    • Fresh organic spinach tossed in a balsamic vinaingrette with chevre, dried cranberries, and croutons
    • Dungeness crab cakes (Thanks for the recipe Mr. Space!)
    • Grilled salmon with fresh mango salsa (the mangoes came from Limbo - .75 cents each and perfectly ripe)
  • Dessert
    • Cheesecake with fresh raspberries (I didn't make the cheesecake....I was too busy scrapping paint)
It was my first time preparing crab cakes - Katey provided 5 pounds of dungeness, so it seemed like a good time to try - but they came out nicely.

K was feeling pretty well...a little break from the nausia. Poor thing hasn't been feeling too well as of late. Wish I could share the load but, alas, I am unable. I can, however, scrape paint.

Hey, Macaca

This evening I sat down for my routine reading of the news and came across a story on Yahoo about Senator George Allen of Virginia. In a nutshell, the Senator said this to a man of Indian decent:

“This fellow over here with the yellow shirt — Macaca or whatever his name is — he’s with my opponent”.

The article focused on whether or not the statement was racist and went back and forth with quotes proving to be neither interesting nor insightful. Nearing the end of the article I still had question as to whether or not the Senator is a complete ass or just a sometimes ass. Then comes the closing paragraph.

“Allen has been accused of racial insensitivity before. He wore a Confederate flag pin in his high school yearbook photo, used to keep a Confederate flag in his living room, a noose in his law office and a picture of Confederate troops in his governor’s office, but has said he has grown since then.”

A noose in his office? I guess the ass question is answered.

Whaa, whaa

K is pregnant!

Holy Toledo! We called Ma & Pa D and Ma R, videotaping the process of informing them. I have no words to explain the joy I feel.
