Windows Explorer - Setting Folder View as default

To set Windows Explorer to open with “Folder View” as the default, do the following:

  • Open Windows Explorer (Windows Key + E)
  • Open Folder View
  • Select Tools / Folder Options / File Types
  • Under Registered File Types, browse to and select:
    (NONE) Folder
  • Click on Advanced
  • Under Actions select Explore
  • Select Set Default
  • OK out

This worked on my Windows XP Pro box. I will test it on my Windows XP Home box later. If you have another method please post it!

Picasa2

I have been looking for a photo/image manager for a while and read some good things about Google's free Picasa2. So, I decided to give it a try.

I have installed it on two machines (work and home) and have found it to be quite the nice little tool. Since I haven't previously used another image manager I don't have anything to compare it to, but I sure like the application. When the application loads for the first time it will scan your machine for image files and folders. Once the scan is complete, you are up and running. The images are easily browsed and searched. You can add captions, upload to Blogger, send images to Hello, email, print, etc. There are even touch-up features. You can create a web page, order prints...you name it, this image manager seems to do it.Two thumbs up on this free application from Google.

ColorPix

This is a handy little app for web and graphic designers. The user can mouse-over any pixel on the screen and it will display the associated color in RGB, HEX, HSB, and CMYK color modes. You can grab a color, “lock” it on the ColorPix view finder, and then click on the preferred format to copy the color index to the clipboard. This utility can save you a lot of time - especially when your client wants to use “the color on such-and-such website”.

Two thumbs up - I use this application all the time.
