I Miss Being Unavailable
We recently switched our home phone service to Comcast Digital Voice (VoIP) and as a result, our cell phone usage has taken a nose-dive. We used 300 combined minutes last month, down from about 1100 at our peak. Nice, time to lower that monthly plan.
So accustomed to the home phone am I that, gasp, I have routinely and accidentally gone to work cell-less these past few weeks. Have I coiled in fear when I realize I am without LG? Have I raced home in a mad dash in hopes of catching a call about a gig? Hell no, I love being cell-less!
I miss being unavailable. I miss the roll of the dice that once was the common phone call. Now, all expectations are that everyone is available, all of the time. Since when is 30 minutes a 'long time to get back to someone'. Shoot, my morning shower is 30 minutes.
Not only do I miss being unavailable, I miss empty pockets. Jesus Digital Christ, I have so much freaking hardware to carry around I'm considering suspenders.
